Moving Miracles

We Are All Moving Miracles!

The fragility of life- If one thing had been different, the “YOU,” you are would not have manifested. I went into labor with my beautiful son under what is considered a double full moon event along with 26 other women in my hospital that night! Most of the evening my Doula rested her hands on my back in an experience she said she hadn’t come across in all her years of catching over 126 babies! (She was also a certified mid wife) The room lighting was dim, Miles Davis played in the background, and because I hadn’t taken any of the hospital medication I was gifted the freedom of movement. She said I danced like I was in a trance. The way my body moved with the rise and fall of the contractions was one of the most beautiful things she’s ever seen. I’ve never forgotten her recount of this story, and while I don’t actually remember exactly what I was doing, I know that the “Dance of Creation” that I was engaged in was the most natural, powerful, and triumphant thing I’ve done to date.

When I was thinking about the intention of reaffirming our individual miracles through movement, (specifically dance), I couldn’t help but think of all the ways movement had shown up in my life. How my own relationship with movement speaks to who I am as a person. Yoga, mindfulness, and meditation is ancient old inner work, and I was curious about transforming that inner work into an outward expression that was culturally, spiritually, and fundamentally unique to me. The dancing in front of my bathroom mirror, the dancing that accompanied my cooking sessions to my favorite jams, the dancing at my childhood church, the dancing at the parties, and the dancing that I had grown so close to in the art of concert and musical theater were all mine. The idea for “The Magic of Movement” came to me at 3:33a.m. during the Winter Solstice of 2018. The idea grew, the labor persisted, and the miracle of its birth is here. Movement had always freed me from suffering. Even in labor, movement and dance had freed me from the western beliefs about how the body will suffer. We all want freedom from suffering. It is my intention to keep creating, facilitating, and experiencing moving miracles. Let the dance carry you, let the movement free you……Monica Josette
